Current Volunteer Opportunities in Maynard
Daytime opportunities:
Driver/assistant for Greater Boston Food Bank pickup - Mondays 9:30 am - 1 pmEach Monday 2 volunteers drive to the Greater Boston Food Bank to pick up groceries for distribution to our guests. They pick up a rental van in Maynard and one person drives to the food bank and they both load the van and return to the site to unload. Twice a month food is also picked up for our pantry location in Concord and dropped off there prior to unloading in Maynard. Drivers must be 25 years old or older.
Shoppers - Mondays - before 2 pm
Each week a menu and shopping list is prepared by the head cook. The shopper purchases the food every Monday at a local grocery store and drops it off at the site prior to meal preparation at 2 pm.
Pantry Work - Mondays - Noon - 1:30 pm
Volunteers are needed to assist in unloading the Greater Boston Food Bank van (see above), setting up and filling grocery bags (under the direction of the pantry manager), sorting and bagging produce and donations from other organizations, breaking down the empty boxes, setting up tables and chairs for the evening dinner service.
Dinner Setup - Mondays - 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Volunteers are needed to set tables and set up coffee stations. Occasionally you will be asked to set up tables and chairs if necessary. This is an excellent opportunity for parents who want to volunteer with younger children.
Cooks - Mondays - 2 pm to 5 pm
Each week 6 or 7 cooks prepare the meal under the direction of the head cook. Each meal consists of a salad, a protein, two sides and a dessert. Occasionally head cook opportunities are also available. Children under 14 may not participate in meal preparation.
Evening opportunities:
Servers - Mondays - 5:15 pm to approximately 7 pm
Servers provide a 3 course meal to our guests, clear tables, put away chairs and tables, assist with kitchen and floor clean up.
Pantry Distribution - Mondays - 5:30 to 7 pm
Pantry volunteers assist with grocery bag distribution, oversee the you-pick table and assist our guests in making selections, carry groceries for some guests, and assist in storing or disposing of leftover pantry items.
Clean-up - Mondays - approximately 5:45 pm to 7 pm
Clean-up volunteers wash and put away dishes, break down boxes, sweep and spot mop floors, and dispose of trash and recycling.
