Press Release: Greater Lowell Community Foundation Grant
Open Table Receives Elder Services Grant from Greater Lowell Community Foundation
Donation to support program senior grocery and meals programs
Concord and Maynard, MA (June 14, 2024) – Open Table, the MetroWest charity dedicated to fighting hunger and building healthy communities, is proud to be a recipient of an Elder Services Grant from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation. This grant is part of record $237,230 in funding announced during the Foundation’s annual meeting on June 11, 2024.
The grant funds will help address food insecurity in seniors. Food insecurity is particularly prevalent among seniors, and 16 percent of Open Table’s clients are age 65 or older. Open Table’s strategy for senior clients includes convenient hours, meal options, and mobile services. The fresh air pantry offers special hours and appointment times for seniors clients, with times spread out to allow for extra attention. Pantry offerings include prepared meals, special senior lunch boxes, and Healthy Helping meals and other dietary options. In collaboration with several community partners, including Councils on Aging, Open Table provides mobile services targeted especially to seniors, alleviating the transportation barrier that many face in accessing services.
This partnership reaffirms the Greater Lowell Community Foundation’s unwavering commitment to addressing food insecurity and building resilient, nourished communities. Open Table expresses profound gratitude for the foundation’s continued generosity and dedication to addressing important needs in our community.
