Volunteer Spotlight: Joan Geoghegan

Joan Geoghegan volunteers on Open Table’s Distribution team, where she can usually be found filling clients’ grocery orders or working in the parking lot on Thursday afternoons. She is also a member of the Open Table marketing team, utilizing her media relations skills to write and secure press coverage for Open Table events. In July, Joan joined Open Table’s Board of Directors.

When asked why she chooses to volunteer at Open Table, Joan replied, “The people, of course. The volunteers and staff are terrific, and so are the clients. I enjoy working with all of them. Pantry distribution is fun, and I get so much back from it. Open Table is a very well-run organization that makes a real impact on food insecurity in our community. Being part of something good and dynamic that’s making a difference—what’s not to like?”

Joan has worked as a communications specialist at large public relations firms and as the principal of her own boutique agency. While most of her career has been focused on high-tech startups, she has also enjoyed working with non-profits in both New York City and Massachusetts.

Growing up on a local dairy farm, Joan developed an early awareness of the importance of wholesome food for personal well-being. She fully aligns with Open Table’s mission of ending food insecurity in the MetroWest area.

Joan has a deep passion for volunteering. Her past and present volunteer work includes serving two terms on the Drumlin Farm Sanctuary Committee and providing ongoing support for her local dog club. A long-time Concord resident, Joan enjoys swimming, gardening, and exhibiting her show dogs.
